Someone on Reddit is looking for a bookkeeper right now.
The hard part isn't that the work isn't there — it's that it's buried in thirty posts that aren't for you. Meadowrank reads them so you don't, scores the ones that are real, and hands you the reply. You send three. That's the whole day.
Eight were someone who might hire you. Thirty-two weren't.
Every cell is one real bookkeeper-adjacent Reddit conversation from our most recent sample. Lit cells are the ones the classifier flagged as a signal.

What bookkeeping demand actually looks like on Reddit
Reddit is a bad place to advertise bookkeeping and a very good place to be found doing it. The people who need you don’t post “looking for a bookkeeper.” They post that they haven’t reconciled since April, that their accountant just quit three weeks before a filing deadline, that the books say one number and the bank says another and they’ve stopped opening the app. That’s the shape of the demand: a mess described in the first person, usually at 11pm, usually with an apology for the length of the post.
In our most recent pass, four of the eight signals were exactly that — pain, no ask attached. Three were people asking directly what a bookkeeper costs or whether it’s worth it at their revenue. One was earlier still: someone weighing DIY against hiring out. That ratio matters because it tells you what your reply has to do. On Reddit you’re rarely closing. You’re usually the first person in the thread who answers the actual question instead of pitching.
The rest of the sample is other bookkeepers talking shop, software gripes, and the endless accounting-app-versus-accounting-app argument. Useful reading. Not leads. If you go looking manually, that four-to-one ratio is what burns the hour, and it’s why “I should really post on Reddit more” has been on your list since January.
Where these threads live
Signals cluster in two kinds of places: the big small-business and entrepreneurship communities where owners go to ask for advice, and — less obviously — the trade communities where owners actually spend their time: contractors, restaurant operators, online sellers. The trade communities convert better and get watched less. An owner asking how the others handle their books, in a community about their trade rather than about business advice, is a warmer conversation — because you’re usually the only bookkeeper who saw it.
What replying actually costs you
Three replies. Ten minutes. The reason it doesn’t happen isn’t difficulty, it’s that prospecting has no scoreboard — you do it for six weeks and feel nothing, so you stop. Meadowrank makes it a game: the scan is a Scout, picking who to talk to is a Commit, and sending the reply for real is a Forage. Streaks, quests, XP, a hive that grows. Points only ever come from replies you actually sent, so the score is just a record of marketing you did.
Free gets you the full game and a shared daily pool — three scans, five commits. $24 a month ($240 a year) gives you your own Quarry: your scans, your niche, your queries, run fresh every morning.

Bookkeepers on Reddit — the practical questions
Won’t I get banned for self-promotion?
You would, if you pitched. Meadowrank drafts replies that answer the question and mention what you do only when someone’s asked. The signals worth your time are mostly people describing a problem — the correct reply there is help, and the profile click follows.
How many signals should I expect per day?
For bookkeeping on Reddit, single digits. Our last sample found 8 in 40 conversations. That’s the honest number, and it’s enough — three good replies a day is 60+ real conversations a month, which is more prospecting than most solo firms do in a year.
Is this scraping Reddit?
No. It’s structured search across public conversations — the same posts you’d find yourself with the right query, minus the hour of finding them.
What does it cost?
Free is a complete game: full streaks, quests, the shared board, three scans and five commits a day from a shared pool. $24/mo or $240/yr unlocks your own Quarry — private scans tuned to your niche — plus a bigger wingbeat pool and higher daily caps.
